Letter 14: Sand or Rock — Where Are You Standing?

Two side by side footprints, one in soft sand, the other in cracked earth, symbolizing the contrast between building life on the solid Rock or shifting sand, drawn Matthew 7:24-27.

Two footprints pressed into the ground side by side—one in smooth, pale sand and the other in cracked, weathered earth. The contrasting textures represent two foundations: one soft and steady, the other dry and brittle. A quiet but powerful visual of Matthew 7:24–27—are you building your life on the Rock or on the sand?

This is Letter 14 from Rescue Mission from Heaven. There is only one foundation that stands when the storms of life come crashing in—and it’s not comfort, control, or self-strength. This letter is your invitation to check your footing and stand firm on the Rock that never moves.

Sand or Rock — Where Are You Standing?

When the Storm Comes, Only One House Stands

Jesus said:

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell

with a great crash.” (Matthew 7:24–27)

We all build something—

dreams, careers, families, reputations.

But when the storm comes, only one house stands.

I know what it’s like to build on sand. It looked strong at first—a faith in myself, in comfort.

But when the storms hit—betrayal, loss, heartbreak—it all washed away.

In the rubble, I saw the truth: I had built my life on me—and I was never enough.

Then Jesus showed me the Rock.

He whispered, “Come to Me. Let Me be your foundation.”

When I stood on Him—really stood on Him—everything changed. The storms still came. The winds still howled. But my house stood firm—because it was built on the Rock that never moves.

Where are you standing? Are you building on the sand of your own strength, your own plans, your own comfort?

Or are you building on Jesus—the only foundation that holds when the world shakes?

Don’t wait for the storm to test your foundation.

Build on the Rock now.

Let Jesus be the lifeboat that keeps you standing—even when everything else falls apart.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I’ve built on sand for too long. I’m tired of watching everything crumble. Today, I choose to build on You—my Rock, my Redeemer, my Rescue. Hold me steady when the storms come. Amen.

Action Step:

Write down one area of your life that feels shaky. Ask Jesus to help you rebuild it on His foundation. Let Him be your Rock today.
