Letter 10: When God Cuts, It’s to Grow
A single golden fruit hangs delicately from a thin brown branch, accompanied by three soft green leaves. The background is a light, neutral tone that highlights the simplicity and purity of the image. The fruit symbolizes spiritual growth, maturity, and the evidence of abiding in Christ—bearing fruit that remains.
This is Letter 10 from Rescue Mission from Heaven. This letter reminds us that pruning isn’t punishment it’s preparation. If your in a season of loss or stripping away, take heart. The gardener is near, shaping you to bear fruit that lasts.
When God Cuts, It’s to Grow
The Purpose in the Pruning
Jesus said:
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” (John 15:1–2)
I didn’t understand pruning at first.
I thought the pain meant something was wrong.
I thought the cutting meant rejection, punishment, or failure.
But Jesus showed me the truth:
When God cuts, it’s not to hurt me—it’s to help me grow.
Pruning feels like loss. Dreams falling away. Relationships dissolving. Comfort stripped away. False security laid bare.
But in the Gardener’s hands, every cut has a purpose.
He’s not trying to destroy me.
He’s shaping me to bear fruit that lasts.
In the pain, I learned to cling to Him—the Vine that never lets go. In the loss, I discovered a deeper dependence. And in the pruning, I found that only He can make my life truly fruitful.
The fruit He’s after is more than success or applause.
It’s the fruit of the Spirit:
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
(Galatians 5:22–23)
Pruning makes room for fruit.
Surrendering to His hands—even when it hurts—is the only way to grow in Him.
Friend, maybe you’re in a pruning season right now. Maybe you feel the cuts and wonder if God is angry or disappointed.
But know this: He’s making you fruitful. He’s shaping you into the image of His Son.
Don’t resist the pruning.
Lean into it.
Because on the other side, you’ll see branches heavy with fruit—fruit that brings Him glory.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I don’t always understand the pruning. But I trust You, my Gardener. Shape me. Grow me. Help me bear fruit that lasts. Amen.
Action Step:
List one area of your life where you feel like you’re being cut back or stripped away. Ask Jesus to help you see how He’s using this season to grow His fruit in you.
